Maltese HealthCare Tips

Maltese are great little dogs with a "Big Dog" mentality.  They are very loyal and protective.  I have seen many sites that refer to Maltese as "The dog of a million kisses".  This is very true, Poochie loves to lick.  We generally keep Poochie's hair clipped to a short length as it is much easier to maintain.  A few other quick facts about Maltese dogs.  Most Maltese can live well into their late teens (in human years)!  An average of 16-18 years is not uncommon.   Maltese also do not shed (other than when brushing or being trimmed :) and are also non-alergenic.  Below you will find some basic tips for caring for your Maltese.

Here are some general tips on how to keep your Maltese clean, healthy, and happy:

                >Bathe them regularly.  We use baby shampoo and bathe Poochie every week.

                >Brush their teeth once to twice every week.  If you neglect your dental care it can lead to abscessed teeth and gum disease.  It is better to take care of something now to prevent something happening in the future.

                >Their ears must be cleaned on a regular basis with a gentle cleansing solution.  If you notice more earwax or the wax is a brownish color, along with scratching the ear or an odor, take your Maltese to the vet.

                >Make sure to clip your dog’s toenails regularly.
